ABOUT THE VALLEY

One of the beautiful places on earth.  Cool to cold winters, mild spring and autumn days, and warm to hot summers.  An ideal place to live.  Unemployment is low, people are happy and

welcoming to the thousands of tourists who visit.

The wine region known as the Clare Valley incorporates four main river systems and stretches for 30-35 kilometers in length.  There are five sub-divisions within the valley, proceeding south from the northern end; they are the sub regions of Clare, Sevenhill, Watervale, Polish Hill River and Auburn.  Each area has its own geographic and climatic characteristics.  Some of the  vineyards are quite elevated, and although the general climate could be described as continental, each small area is subject to its own microclimate.  Many Clare wines

exhibit distinct cool climate characteristics and intense varietal fruit flavours.

Compared to the Barossa Valley, the Clare Valley has a later growing period and vintage, with fruit ripening after the intense heat of summer.
