This was Mintaro's original public school, overlooking the church common & vineyards.  It was built of free labour by the town artisans in community spirit. The cost of education was 3 pence per day, long before the days of free education. Constructed of stone blocks & dark stained timber floors, the original ceiling still exists of packing case detail. The artificial wood-grained architraves have been rejuvenated as at Martindale stately mansion.  The shingle roof was replaced with iron in the 1880 drought, to form a common roof with the adjoining Settlers Cottage.

The cellar beneath the school was originally the cottage kitchen.  The school bell is still in place.  It was expected to sound over a 2  mile radius, so please refrain from ringing the bell until a respectable hour!

Today the 2 classrooms comprise a double bedroom with modern en-suite and sitting room with kitchenette facilities.  The School House is decorated and furnished in early Victorian style with artefacts from Mintaro School.

The School House provides all the required linen, TV, electric blankets, abundant breakfast provisions and wood for the open-hearth fireplace.
